Definitions

• Drug- any substance that cause and mental or
  physical change.
• Prescription- a doctors written permission or
  order for a specific medication
• Drug use- taking the drug as order by a physician
• Drug misuse- improper use of a drug
• Drug abuse- intention improper use of a drug

• Psychoactive effect- An effect on persons mood or
  behavior
• Addiction- A condition in which the body needs a
  substance to function
• Medicine- Substance used to treat an illness or
  ailment.
• Dose- The amount of a drug that is taken

Drug categories

• Natural remedies- contain substance that occur
  in nature
• Over the Counter (OTC)-drugs that can be
  purchased w/o a doctors written permission
• Prescription- Drugs only given with a doctors
  written permission

• Tobacco- Drug that contains nicotine
• Alcohol- A drug that slows the central nervous
  system
• Illegal Drugs- Drugs that cant be legally sold ,
  purchased or used

Types of (OTC) drugs

• Analgesic- Pain killer
• Sedative- Slows central nervous system and caused
  drowsiness
• Stimulant- Increases activity of the central
  nervous system

How drugs can be Taken

• Inhaled- effects respitory system
• Oral- Quickly enters blood stream

• Injection- Drug placed directly into blood stream
• Topical- though the skin

Defintions

• Side effect- An effect that accompanies the
  expected effect of a drug
• Drug allergy- Unwanted effect that accompanies
  the desired effect.
