Course Template
Identifies attributes of Courses
  • One record per LEA, Location, School Year, and
    Course Code
  • Local Course ID used as the Unique Course Code
  • Standardized Course ID (SCED Code) will be used
    as the Alternate Course Code
  • Subject Area will be used for grouping and
    reporting purposes

Associates Course/Section with Teacher(s)
  • One record per LEA, Location, School Year, Course
    Code, Section Code and Teacher
  • Professional Personnel ID (PPID) of Staff Member
  • Can also record additional instructors

Student Course Enrollment Template
Associates Course/Section with Students
  • One record per LEA, Location, School Year, Time
    Period, Student ID, Course Code, and Section
  • Snapshot of which classes students were taking at
    a point in time

Voluntary Vendor Participation Program Overview
  • Overview
  • Vendor complete PIMS Voluntary Vendor
    Participation Form
  • Vendor downloads PIMS User Manual
  • Vendor creates the four template files intended
    for submission in October 2007 Student, Student
    Snapshot, Program Participation, and School
    Enrollment.
  • Vendor submits the template files with test data
    to the PIMS help desk via email
    RA-PIMSHelp_at_state.pa.us
  • PDE confirms all four template files meet the
    specifications
  • PDE reports the testing outcome to the vendor
  • PDE posts the vendors successful product(s) and
    version(s) on the PIMS website.
  • Note Incomplete or unsuccessful attempts are
    not posted on the website.

Update on Calculating Graduation Rates in 2010
  • PDE has committed to using the graduation rate
    calculation defined by the National Governors
    Association (NGA) by the end of the 2009-2010
    school year.
  • This requires data to be collected on Grade 9
    students beginning in the 2006-2007 school year
  • 2007-2008 Grade 9 students will be collected
    through PIMS. 
  • It is necessary to develop an alternative
    solution to collecting information on 2006-2007
    Grade 9 students.

Preliminary Plan for Collecting Grad Rate Data
  • Leverage the PIMS system for this Special
    Graduation Rate Data Request
  • This request will involve modified versions of
    the Student, Student Snapshot, and School
    Enrollment Templates
