    enhance their Greek language capability
  • To facilitate active involvement of the
parents, staff and the community in the guidance
of and promotion of the Greek language and
    Heritage

4
Project Goals To Develop and Implement a School
Structure that can meet our current and future
needs
  • To institute an environment that will allow the
children to interact together and be immersed in
a in a more organized Greek language setting
  • To construct a school system that will allow the
teachers to implement a more robust and enhanced
    curriculum for the students and
  • To ensure that the format adopted is executed
    within an acceptable time frame.

5

Current Situation
  • Greek School operates on Mon, Tues,Thurs,Fri
evenings (1745-1930) and Sat from (1130-1300)
  • Curriculum is exclusively based on a grade system
commencing from junior preschool through grade
    six
  • Each student receives three hours classroom
    instruction (less preschool)

7
Critical Analysis
  • Weaknesses
  • Evening for the younger ages is not an optimum
    learning time
  • Sessions of 1.5 hours does not facilitate nor
promote any cultural interaction for the
    children
  • Midweek family schedules disallow any meaningful
attempt to progress childrens capacity to learn
    another language and

8
Critical Analysis
  • Weaknesses (contd)
  • Large disparity of Greek language knowledge
amongst students negates the effectiveness and
relevancy of the current grade system.

9
Curriculum and Timings
  • Benefits
  • Level system of learning will enable students to
learn alongside others of the same level and
allow those more advanced to progress
  • Longer Sessions will allow for greater
interaction amongst students and enable cultural
activities to be promoted more thoroughly
  • Teachers will be given the framework to implement
a more dynamic delivery method and
  • Parent involvement (volunteer activism) will
promote the development of and delivery of more
    activity based language /cultural interaction.
