Definition
  • Orge (or-gay) Anger, Wrath Originally any
    natural impulse, or desire, or disposition,
    came to signify anger, as the strongest of all
    passions (Vines).
  • Thumos Indignation, Wrath hot anger or
    passion (Vines).
  • Anger is not just an innocent or simple emotion.
  • It can be very destructive to the one who is
    angry and to those around him/her.

The Sin of Anger
  • Anger is common in our society, often justified
    even by Christians.
  • But God shows us its true nature.
  • Matt. 521-22 Danger of judgment.
  • 2 Cor. 1221 Danger of condemnation.
  • Eccl. 79 Anger rests in the bosom of fools.
  • Psalm 378 It only causes harm.
  • We must emphasize the sin of anger that we may
    flee from it!

Righteous Anger
  • Eph. 426a There is such a thing, but not
    according to the worlds standards.
  • Does not lash out at others.
  • Does not seek to harm another person at all (Rom.
    1219).
  • Such anger is selfish, divisive, and worldly to
    the core.

  • But with man the longer we stay angry for
    whatever reason the greater opportunity to sin.

  • If anger endures it is not righteous, but selfish
    and bitter.
