Title: Application Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index TVDI to the Valencia Anchor Station reference area

1
  • Application Temperature Vegetation Dryness
Index (TVDI) to the Valencia Anchor Station
    reference area (www.uv.es/anchors) with a
    continental climate,by using MODIS images.
  • Definition of homogeneous units where ground
based soil moisture measurements will be deployed
in order to produce soil moisture maps at a large
scale, compatible to a SMOS reference pixel, and
addressed to the validation of this instrument.
  • TVDI ? Surface temperature
  • (Ts) and vegetation index (NDVI) used to obtain
estimations of soil moisture at the surface
  • Only satellite information needed
  • TVDI value range from 1 at dry edge (limited
water availability) to 0 wet edge (max EVT)

  • Analysis of NDVI images of the Iberian Peninsula
throughout the last two decades in order to
identify desertification hot spots (areas where
land degradation processes are taking place).
  • The vegetation is considered as a physical
indicator of the land degradation processes.
  • NOAA-AVHRR and SPOT VEGETATION NDVI images are
    available

DESERTIFICATION
6
  • Application of geostatistical techniques to
derive maps of biophysical parameters from
    punctual ground measurements.
  • These maps are used to validate remote sensing
products related to vegetation, as derived from
appliyind different methologies to images from
    different resolutions.
