Examples of Social Supports
  • Successful diversion occurs daily at the
center. Individuals who might ordinarily be
picked up by the police for disorderly conduct,
loitering, open containers are placed in the
Triage Center for treatment and medical needs.
    (Lee County Report)

5
  • Partnerships have had a synergistic impact.
Flexibility at the Triage Center regarding length
of stay, bus passes, and discharge plan are key
componentsthis of the one unique way we met our
    goals.
  • (Lee County Report)

held by the stakeholders bi-weekly with
    decision-making focused on client/offender needs
continue to DRIVE the process. (Hillsborough
    County Report)

Results of identified needs from building social
supports
  • Partnerships are working well
  • Simplicity One Stop Shopping
  • Other providersopened the referral pathway to
    additional services and agencies
  • Offering voluntary services is much more
    effective than diverting a client
  • Law enforcement doing initial screenings that
are more positive and supportive of clients

9
SOCIAL INCLUSION
  • Ensures that individuals with a mental illness
and substance abuse disorder can and will become
valued members of their communities. This is
especially true in the successful implementation
of an inclusive community approach to a very
    specific problem.

10
  • These grants will become the model as communities
begin to learn important lessons from the power
of their citizens working in unison to resolve
    local issues.
  • Florida has the chance to use this model as it
moves forward in dealing with complicated issues
    with limited resources.
