Hospitality outcomes
  • Attendance at lectures improved
  • Number of non-qualifying students reduced (from
    40 to 30)
  • Average coursework mark rose from 47.8 to 60
  • Not all down to video podcasts, but a
contributing factor course will be run again
next semester with more detailed evaluation

16
Case Studies
  • (2) Maureen Lister, University of Bologna
  • Teaching English to Italian law students
  • The Problem Traditional language teaching
materials not authentic with little emotion or
variation wanted to provide students with
materials which were challenging and original and
find a way of making them accessible and useable
    for teaching
  • Solution Use suitable BBC archive material and
allow students and teachers to annotate and save
    notes

finding aid access to My Padova with
    favourites, notes and tags
  • Need to find a way to show different types of

Conclusions
  • Our users are keen to add value to existing
    digital audio and video content
  • Repository and tools designed to be flexible and
    modular
  • Web 2.0 technology is always changing learning
    outcomes are important, not technology
