Six Steps to XBRL
- This slide show demonstrates the steps to tag a
simple income statement using Rivets Dragon Tag
software.
2Step One Download the taxonomies.
Follow and click the links marked with blue
arrows to find and download the taxonomies.

Download the zip file and save it to your hard
drive. This will be used in setting up the
entitys profile in Step Three.
5Step Two Open Dragon Tag and the file you wish
to tag.
Open Excel with the Dragon Tag Add-in.

- If the Add-in is disabled, click the office icon
in the upper left-hand corner of Excel 2007,
select Excel options (bottom right hand corner),
and enable the Dragon Tag Add-in from Manage
Disabled Items as shown on the next slide. The
pop-up window will allow you to enable the Add-in
that you downloaded to your computer.

Once you have opened Excel and the Add-in has
been enabled, if necessary, the Add-in menu icon
will be available. Click this link to access the
Rivet Software menu.
9Step Three Set up the entity profile.
Under Default Taxonomy, you can browse to find
the taxonomy that you downloaded in Step One.
10Step Four Mark up the data.
Here you will find the options for Markup, Markup
review and the Markup Report.

Right click on My Hoppers and add a hopper.

Set up the hopper by clicking the desired
elements. Once the hopper is created, you can
drag and drop the hopper to multiple highlighted
columns or rows of data.

Select Reporting Elements and expand the taxonomy
to see all line items. Identify the correct tag
and drag and drop it on the appropriate cell in
the spreadsheet. Only items marked with green
circles can be selected for tagging.

To review markup for individual cells, select
Markup Data and then Markup Review.

A Markup Report lets you review the markup of the
all the data prior to validation. This option is
available under Markup Data.

If you make mistakes, you can use the restore
option to go back and make corrections.

The restore option allows you to go back to
various points in the process and correct
problems.
18Step Five Validate.
Next validate both the markup and the
calculations.

Export your data as an
XBRL file.

Save the file to your hard drive. You may
preview using two options XBRL or Web.
23Step Six Export.
XBRL Preview shows the data in XBRL format. You
have now created an instance document.
