Dr. Sameroffs research interests are focused on
the factors that contribute to mental health and
psychopathology. His longitudinal projects with
infants, school-age children, and adolescents,
examine the effects of parent, family, community,
school and peer group on social-emotional
adjustment and academic success. Among the
samples being studied are infants with
physiologic regulatory problems, children with
depressed parents, and adolescents living in
neighborhoods with few resources to support
development. Dr. Sameroff's research program
investigates the relation between risk and
protective factors to issues of vulnerability and
resilience, and will focus on these issues in his
talk.
