I-VLab the result of several years of EI
development

• Created in March 2007, www.interop-vlab.eu
• From the Network of Excellence INTEROP-NoE
  (Interoperability Research for Networked
  Enterprise Applications and Software, FP6 508011,
  42 months, 50 partners, 6,5 M EC funds)
• INTEROP-VLab is a non-profit international
  association under the Belgian Law (aisbl)
• Grouping 8 regional poles, bringing together
  leading academics, research centers, industrial
  stakeholders, SMEs, from 10 European countries
  and from China, 70 partners and more than 300
  researchers

Enterprise Interoperability definition

• The ability of two or more systems or components
  to exchange information and to use the
  information that has been exchanged
• (IEEE, 1990)
• 1. Capability of a system or a product to
  interact with other systems or products without
  specific effort from the user
• 2. Capacity of an enterprise software or
  application to interact with others
• (INTEROP definition, April 2007)

The originality of INTEROP-VLab approach

• The originality of the INTEROP-VLab
  approach, heritage of previous research works, is
  to take a multidisciplinary vision by merging
  three research areas supporting the development
  of Enterprise Interoperability

• Information and Communications Technology the
  technological base of interoperable systems
• Enterprise Modelling to define Interoperability
  requirements and to support solution
  implementation
• Ontology to ensure the semantical consistency
  of networked organisations and solutions

• Missions are to maintain and develop the
  defragmentation of the ERA (European Research
  Area) in cooperation with other regions of the
  world, in order
• To support the development of the research,
  education and innovation in Enterprise
  Interoperability
• To be an Excellent Centre in the domain of

• The Knowledge Map (I-V KMap)

  based on an ontology in EI
• for retrieving and storing relevant content
  (documents, project and product descriptions,
  peoples competencies, organizations, meetings,
  visits..)
• KMap can be customized to specific need
• to build a specific Knowledge Management System
  using the most advanced ontology research results
  
• by using experience of top specialists in the
  domain of ontology
• Research on the I-V KMap
• Use the I-V KMap tool for scientific research

• other options have been introduced (reviews,

Research Project Service

• INTEROP-VLab can
• Facilitate and support the creation / launching
  of research project in the EI domain
• Support coordination, management and recruitment
  of competencies among a network of 300
  researchers through Europe and China
• Develop / maintain methods, tools and database to
  support the creation of Research Projects in EI
• Perform roadmap activities for companies or
  research organization
• Produce studies of interest for the European
  Commission, Public organizations at the European,
  national or regional level, "Map of Competence
