  • Outline
  • Motivations
  • CMCC/INGV Assimilation System for the Global
    Ocean
  • Examples of global ocean analyses used for
  • studies of inter-annual and decadal ocean
    variability
  • estimation of coupled model performances
  • initialization of seasonal forecast.
  • Ongoing activities and near future plans
  • CMCC/INGV Assimilation System for the
    Mediterranean Sea
  • Results
  • Conclusions/Future Work

3
  • Motivations
  • Provide regularly gridded and dynamically
consistent analyses for diagnostic studies of
past climate variability at different time scales
    (from seasonal to decadal).
  • Provide a validation data set for models.
  • Provide an optimal initial state of the oceanic
component of a coupled model for seasonal and
    lower frequency forecast.
  • Provide the boundary conditions for higher
    resolution regional models

Results Near Future Application
A comprehensive set of data, describing the
physical state of the ocean has been produced,
and is available to assess the consequences of
climate change for human society and marine
ecosystems in the Mediterranean environment (as
part of the CIRCE project or any other similar
activities).

Data Distribution Center as soon as possible for
  • dataset search and discovery
  • dataset download
  • dataset access via OPeNDAP
  • dataset subsetting through Netcdf-Subset Service
  • dataset visualization via Integrated Data Viewer
and Godiva2 web interface (including support for
    Google Earth).
