• Training and information. This paragraph requires
  the employer to provide effective training to
  employees who are required to use respirators.
  The training must be comprehensive,
  understandable, and recur annually, and more
  often if necessary.

Heat or Elevated Temperatures
Heat can damage the respiratory tract, and if the
air is moist, the damage can be worse. Excessive
heat taken in to quickly can cause a serious
decrease in BP failure of the circulatory
system. Inhaling heated gases can cause Pulmonary
Edema, which can cause death from asphyxiation.

Smoke
The smoke at a fire is a suspension of small
particles of carbon, tar, dust floating in a
combination of heated gases. The particles
provide a means for the condensation of some of
the gaseous products of combustion especially
aldehydes organic acids formed from
carbon. Some particles are merely irritating
others are lethal.

Maintenance

• Preventative maintenance is being performed on
  all packs once every 6 months. One truck is done
  monthly on a rotating schedule. E-1 January, E-2
  February, E-3 March... etc.
• All other maintenance requests should be sent to
  Fire HQ on the correct form and with the Air-Pak
  and mask needing repair.

Cleaning Disinfecting

• Mask
• Clean with Soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly.
  If heavily soiled.
• To disinfect use Scott Multi-Wash, then rinse.
• Regulator
• Clean regulator body by wiping down with soap
  water. Do not submerge.
• To disinfect use Scott Multi-Wash.

Storing

• Store the SCBA on the truck as a complete unit.
  If components are wet make sure they are left so
  they can dry to avoid mildew.
• DO NOT store with head net pushed in front of
  mask.
• Be careful as to how the low pressure hose is
  placed in bag. No extreme bends.
