Wilmington Friends Quaker Hill Meeting House
  • Quaker Hill was first settled in 1738 by William
Shipley, whose wife, Elizabeth had seen the site
in a dream as their home. 521 N. West St.
    Wilmington, DE 19301.

6
Quaker Hill Preservation Center
  • Quaker Hill Preservation Center, is a place where
they store Quaker facts, its right by my school,
and we walked past it but we couldnt go in. They
have a website and I got MOST of my facts from
    there.

7
Change
  • Since that time, the Quaker Hill Meeting House
and the historical neighborhood has seen much
    development and change.

8
Anti-slavery
  • Back in the early 1800s there were anti-slavery
sewing circles for women who were against
slavery. They would bake food and sew clothes for
the slaves, and usually if your family wasnt
Quaker, they wouldnt approve of the sewing
    circles.

9
My opinion
  • If I lived back then I would have joined one of
    the Anti-slavery sewing circles.

10
Children
  • A child born of a slave mother would
automatically become a slave, unless the mother
bought the child freedom, then the child would be
    free.
