• Work for the knight or lord a few days a week
• Give some portion of their food to the manor

Life on the Manor

• Insular
• Grew or caught their own food
• Made their own clothes
• Ground grains baked bread at the mill
• A peasant could live his or her whole life w/out
  leaving the manor

Taxes

• Grain ground at the manor mill
• Anywhere else was a crime
• On marriage
• You could only marry with the lords consent

Tithe

• Peasants owed the church a tithe
• One tenth of their income

• Peasants life is determined by God
• Faith guarantees their entry into Heaven
