  • T-Shirt Backpack

Step 1
  • Pin pattern piece to the shirt (you will be
    pinning through 3 layers).
  • Be sure to center pattern piece on shirt graphic.
  • (Notice how many pins are used in the picture)

Step 2
  • Cut carefully along the pattern piece through
    both layers of the shirt.
  • Keep extra scraps and pattern piece in your bin.
  • No neckline or shoulder seams are included.

Step 3
  • Lay bag pieces right sides together
  • Pin sides of bag, stopping 2 from top

Step 4
  • Casing
  • Fold each side of the top of the bag 1 ½ to
    wrong side.
  • Pin through 1 layer of shirt only.
  • Repeat

  • Place edge of presser foot on edge of casing
    piece.
  • Stitch to other end (backstitch at starting and
    ending point).
  • Repeat for back casing
  • DONT SEW BACKPACK FRONT AND BACK TOGETHER!

  • Sew a 5/8 side (3rd line of throat plate) seam
    from bottom of bag to 2 from top (backstitch at
    starting and ending points).
  • DO NOT SEW THROUGH THE CASING!

  • Sew a second time around (right on top 1st row of
    stitches) for reinforcement.
  • Backstitch at starting and ending point.

  • Put a piece of duct tape on each bottom corner
    (all 4 corners-lined up with the corner
    stitching).
  • This will add reinforcement to the corners.

  • Turn bag right side out.
  • Push out the bottom corners.

  • Insert a grommet on each bottom corner.
  • (See the Grommet Slide Show for directions.)

  • Loosely tie one end of the cord to a large safety
    pin.

  • Insert the end of one cord into the grommet.
  • Loosely tie a knot (a knot you can easily undue
    in a little while).

  • Feed that end through one side of the casing and
    around through the other side into the back
    casing.
  • Bring the end back down into the same hole as the
    first end and knot it off (the knot should be on
    the backside of the backpack).
  • Repeat on other side.

  • 1.Tada!!! Youre done. Fill your bag and enjoy!
    After you have turned it in for a grade of
    course)

  • To turn the bag in for a grade. Fill out the
    evaluation sheet. Pin the evaluation to the bag
    and put on Mrs. Wadmans desk.
