Title: Spiritual Transformation

1
Spiritual Transformation
  • 2 Corinthians 318

2
2 Corinthians 318
  • But we all, with open face beholding as in a
glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the
same image from glory to glory, even as by the
    Spirit of the Lord. (KJV)
  • But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a
mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to
glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. (NASB)

3
But we all, with unveiled face
  • While the potential of spiritual transformation
is open to all, true disciples exhibit open and
honest hearts (Luke 815 cf. Jer. 3133), not
like unbelievers, whose minds are hardened and
whose eyes are veiled (John 1237-43 Heb.
    37-15).

4
Beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord
  • Sacred Scripture is like a mirror, reflecting the
mind of God and revealing the heart of man (1
    Cor. 138-12 Heb. 412-13 James 121-25).
  • The power of Gods word, proclaimed in its purity
and simplicity, starkly contrasts with the
corrupt perversions of men (Jer. 2325-32 2 Cor.
    217 41-2).

5
We are being transformed into the same image from
glory to glory
  • The Greek word metamorphoo, translated
transformed, occurring 4x in the NT, means to
change in a manner visible to others, i.e., be
transfigured (Matt. 172 Mark 92), or to
change inwardly in fundamental character or
condition, i.e., be changed or transformed (Rom.
    122 2 Cor. 318). Faithful Christians undergo a
    dramatic spiritual transformation (Rom. 828-30
    1311-14).

6
Just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
  • The expression, just as from the Lord, the
Spirit, affirms that Jesus, possessor of the
divine Spirit, works in perfect harmony with the
other members of the Godhead to accomplish mans
    salvation and spiritual transformation (John
    11-3 148-10 1612-15).

7
Conclusion
  • Taking advantage of the provision that God has
made for our spiritual growth, may we be willing
to undergo such a transformation of life and soul
    (Eph. 411-16 1 Pet. 21-3).
