Anabolic Steroids
  • Synthetic compounds that are chemically related
    to testosterone
  • Promotes development of secondary sex
    characteristics
  • called androgen effects
  • Accelerates muscle grown
  • anabolic effects

Anabolic Steroids cont.
  • Cannot synthetically develop the drug without
    the androgen effect
  • Current research shows little or marginal effect
    on enhanced strength or performance

  • Classified as a controlled dangerous substance
    and under the control of the DEA
  • Harmful side effects include liver cancer,
    masculinizing effects on females, Infertility,
    diminished sex drive in males, Premature bone
    growth cessation in teenagers, Mood and
    personality changes
