How Fiction books are arranged
  • Fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order
    using the Authors SURNAME.
  • This allows all the books by the same author to
be kept together on the shelf

6
Know your Alphabet?
  • For example Jacqueline Wilson books will be
shelved under W because her surname is Wilson and
    begins with the letter W.
  • How would you arrange the following authors on
    the shelf
  • Robert Westall, James Watson, Chris Wooding
    Jacqueline Wilson?

Solution !Did you get it right?
  1. Watson, James
  2. Westall, Robert
  3. Wilson, Jacqueline
  4. Wooding, Chris

Non- Fiction
  • These are information books

    subjects, for example
  • events that have happened
  • how to do things
  • how things work

9
How Non-fiction books are arranged
  • Non-fiction books are arranged by SUBJECT
  • This makes it easier for you to find books for
any topic that you are studying - for example
all books on cars are found together.

10
Dewey Decimal Classification System
  • Each non-fiction book is given a code-number
the books are arranged on the shelf in NUMERICAL
    order
  • All books on the same subject are given the same
    number
  • This arrangement is known as the Dewey Decimal
Classification System named after Melvil Dewey
    who devised the system
