What are the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)?
  • K-12 academic standards in mathematics and
    English language arts/literacy adopted by the CT
    State Board of Education and by states across the
    country in 2010.
  • Establish what students should understand, know,
    and be able to do as they progress through grades
  • Will be implemented in both mathematics and
    English-language arts in grades K-5 this year

The Common Core State Standards
  • Are clear, consistent, and high-level based on
    research and evidence
  • Align with college and career expectations
  • Include rigorous content and application of
    knowledge through higher order thinking skills
  • Build upon strengths and lessons of current state
  • Are informed by other top-performing countries so
    that all students are prepared to succeed in our
    global economy and society

  • Districts are awaiting information from the CT
    State Dept of Education regarding plan for
    state-mandated assessments for spring 2014,
    whether CMT or computer-based assessments
    aligned with Common Core.
  • State testing will move to a computer-based
    format in in 2014-2015
