Title: Biblical Reasons for Christians to Cover their Nakedness

1
Biblical Reasons for Christians to Cover their
Nakedness
2
Introduction
Some Christians believe that biblical modesty
pertains only to putting on costly clothing, and
not to a lack of clothing. While the Bible
certainly warns against showy, attention-grabbing
garb (1 Pet. 33-5 2 Tim. 29), God also address
a lack of clothing.
3
Point 1
The word naked or nakedness, in the New
Testament, can indicate nudity or simply a lack
of clothing, which the Bible treats as something
that should be remedied See Mt. 2536-44 Rom.
835 2 Cor. 53 1127 Jas. 215 Rev. 317,
18 1615 1716. (Job 226 in O.T.)

Point 2
Displaying physical nakedness (a lack of physical
clothing) in public, is viewed as shameful in
both the Old Testament (Gen. 37-11, 21 Exo.
2026 2842, 43 Isa. 471-3 Lam. 18 Nah.
35) and in the New Testament Rev. 318
5
Revelation 318
  • I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the
fire, that you may be rich and white garments,
that you may be clothed, that the shame of your
nakedness may not be revealed and anoint your
eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

Regarding, Rev. 318
The Lords illustration, comparing (by analogy)
the Christians spiritual depravity with physical
nakedness, would have made absolutely no sense
to the Laodicean church, unless there was a
premise of shame in being physically naked,
which would be understood by the Christians
there. Johns teaching was a spiritual precedent
from God. It was not based on a social móre
because nakedness wasnt considered a shame
within the pagan Laodicean culture.

Point 3
Removing clothing to expose the body to the
opposite sex incites sexual arousal, which should
be reserved for the marriage bed (Heb. 134
Prov. 518-19).

Point 4
The shamefast woman of 1 Tim. 29
does not want to be a stumbling block, inciting
lust in men by her apparel, or lack thereof.

Hear From Others. . .
Men are very easily aroused sexually. That is
why semi-naked women are used in television and
magazine advertisements. Parents need to explain
to their daughters how easily man is aroused
sexually by a womans body. They need to know,
because many of them do not understand what
happens to a man. . . Fathers need to explain to
their daughters about how men react to a womans
body. They also need to explain to their sons
that although womens clothes, or lack of them,
can be a stumbling block to a male, it is not an
excuse for them in relation to what their mind
does with what they see. . . We must understand
how men are created. Man was designed to be
easily aroused sexually and to respond to one
woman (his wife). . . However, sin distorts this,
and it is wrong for a man to look lustfully on
any woman other than his wife. Therefore,
clothing should minimize to the greatest extent
any stumbling block laid in a mans way. But a
man is no less guilty if he succumbs to the
second look. (Ken Ham, The Lie Evolution,
Genesis The Key to Defending Your Faith. 1987,
Master Books, pp. 59-62).

Why Modesty? Glad you asked!  )  I don't speak
for any other swimwear company, church group, or
individual, but only for myself.  I choose to
cover up because I want to glorify God with my
body and to save myself for my future husband if
I one day marry.  I believe that how a person
dresses is a personal choice, and that they
should do what they know is right before the
Lord.    The Bible encourages women to dress in
"modest apparel" and also says that "it is good
for a man not to touch a woman".  We all know
that men are mainly stimulated by sight, and
women by touch.  I believe that these guidelines
are given to us by God for our own protection.
Our sexuality is something that is very special
and was given to us by God to share with our
spouse.  I know that our culture would not agree
with this, but I do not speak for our culture.
This is what I believe to be true from God's Holy
Inspired Word, the Bible.  But God has also given
us free wills.  We can choose to treasure and
save our bodies, or to expose ourselves for
anyone to see.

The Bible doesn't give exact guidelines as to
what type of garment is modest and what is not,
so we need to use common sense and ask the Lord
for discretion.  Would this outfit stimulate a
man in a way that we wouldn't wish? A man should
also use discretion in how he treats a woman so
that he doesn't produce feelings in her which may
not be right.  Because modesty is a personal
choice, and something that we each should
prayerfully consider, our purpose at Modest
Swimwear Solutions is not to make some kind of
"rule" about what style of swimsuit is modest.  I
only wish to make another option available for
ladies who appreciate modesty or are looking for
sun protection.CrystalSimply Modest Swimwear
