The Art of Persuasion
  • Your school has just adopted a mandatory dress
code policy. As president of the school, it is
your duty to inform the administration that the
students are against it. In the space provided,
detail how you will attempt to persuade the
administration that your position makes more
    sense.

33
The Art of Persuasion
  • Three of the four main characters in The
Scarlet Letter harbor sins of varying degrees
throughout the entire novel. While speaking with
Hester, Dimmesdale even goes so far as to claim
that Chillingworth is the most vile sinner of
them all stating, he has violated, in cold
blood, the sanctity of a human heart. Using your
knowledge of the text and persuasive technique,
create an argument claiming which character you
believe to be the darkest, most vile sinner
within the novel. Be sure to include
    counter-arguments.
