Welcome to the Year 10 Information Evening
  • Aims
  • To give you a brief overview of the programme of
    study.
  • To provide you with some key dates.
  • To explain the target setting, monitoring and
    intervention process at KS4.

Core Subjects
  • English
  • All students will sit English Language and
    English Literature GCSEs at the end of Year 11.

Core Subjects
  • Maths
  • All students will sit the GCSE Maths exam at the
    end of Year 11.
  • The top two sets (taught by Ms Hughes and Mr
    Stephenson) will also study towards the Level 2
    Certificate in Mathematics during Year 11.
  • Students within other groups may also be in a
    position to study towards this course depending
    upon progress during Year 10.

Core Subjects
  • Science
  • There are a number of different pathways in
    Science. Some of these are subject to some
    ongoing assessment either through practical
    controlled assessments or coursework assignments.
  • Some students (3 groups) will be studying Triple
    Science and will receive separate GCSEs in
    Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students began
    this pathway in Year 9.
  • These courses are assessed by practical
    controlled assessments (ISAs) and examination.

  • All other students will be studying Core Science
    in Year 10 and will progress to another Science
    qualification in Year 11. This route gives
    students two GCSE grades.
  • Core Science is assessed by practical controlled
    assessment (ISA) and examinations.
  • These students will progress to Additional
    Science, Applied Science or BTEC Science in Year
    11.
  • Additional Science is assessed by practical
    controlled assessment (ISA) and examinations.
  • Applied Science is assessed by a mixture of
    examinations and assignments.
  • BTEC is assessed by a mixture of examinations and
    assignments .

Option subjects
  • ICT
  • Students studying the Cambridge National in
    i-media and the Cambridge National in ICT will
    sit an examination in January 2016 (Year 11).
    Beyond this, the courses are assessed by
    coursework.
  • Students studying GCSE Computing will be assessed
    by terminal examination in June 2016 and two
    controlled assessment tasks.

Option subjects
  • Most subjects will be assessed by a mixture of
    ongoing controlled assessments followed by final
    examinations in Year 11.
  • Controlled assessments will occur throughout Year
    10 and 11 and in many subjects will be worth at
    least 25 of the overall grade.

Controlled Assessment Levels of Control
  • High level formal supervision.
  • Medium level informal supervision.
  • Low level limited supervision.
