1/28
  • Today is the first day of the third quarter of
    your seventh grade year.
  • Think backwhat were your expectations or goals
for this year? That is, at the beginning of the
year, what did YOU think you were going to do
    this year? Academically and personally.
  • Have you met your goals?
  • What changes should you make? What would you
redo? What improvements could you make for the
    rest of the year?

minutes are up, you should KEEP writingbut after
answering the prompt, you can just FREE write.
Write about anything you want, but you must write
the whole time. Even after you have the minimum
half a pageI want you to WRITE and WRITE and

Okay, skip a line and answer the following
questions
  1. How ready are you to start the test on Monday?
  2. What mode do you think you will choose to write
in if you were given the choice of imaginative,
    expository or personal narrative?
  3. What do you think the writing process is? (We
havent talked of this yet, so dont panic)

7
  • Lets say you had the prompt to tell about a
memorable first day experience, like the dirt
bike narrative in front of you. You could even
use the first time you learned to ride a dirt
bike, if that works for you (or a horse, or a
bike, or a snowboardwhatever works!). How could
you write the narrative so it would be better?
What would be your first step? (write down what
    your first step would be).
  • If you wrote PREWRITE, you are on the right track!

8
  • What are some different ways to prewrite?
  • tables, lists, webs, diagrams, brainstorm
  • What would you do for prewriting if you were
    writing an imaginative prompt?
  • you need a basic situation (characters,
    setting)
  • events, conflict, climax! You cant start
    writing until you have that!
  • What would you do for an expository prompt?
  • You need a topic sentence and an outline!

9
  • What would you do for a personal narrative
    prompt?
  • You should have a list of important events
  • Or a web or whatever works for youbut a GOOD and
    SOLID plan
  • NEXT part of the writing process? After the
    brainstorming?
  • FIRST draft
  • Why dont I say rough draft?
  • Because youre going to have a zillion million
    drafts

10
  • After your first draft what do you do?
  • EDIT AND REVISE
  • What is the difference?
  • Revision is where you add your brushstrokes, or
take lame-o boring words (so, very, a lot, stuff)
and add amazing, vibrant, vivid words. Revision
is where you realize sentences are missing, or
key details arent there, and you ADD them
  • Editing is where you look for your weaknesses
    (spelling, capitalization, punctuation) and fix
    mistakes!
