Title: Feudalism Game

1
Feudalism Game
  • In this game you will be assigned either the role
of a Duke or a Knight in a kingdom.
  • Your objective is to gain as much land and money
    as possible for your territory

2
Dukes and Knights
  • I need 5 volunteers to be dukes.
  • If you are a duke, please wait in the hall
  • The rest of you will be knights
  • Role of the Knight

3
Additional Roles for Knights
  • Ex Chequer (Treasurer-type-person)
  • In charge of keeping all accounts and inventories
for the dukedom. This includes not only money
but also accounts due from monasteries, towns,
cathedrals, and other sources of revenue.
  • Cartographer
  • This person must maintain accurate maps round by
round that depict any exchanges of territories
that occur during the game. Needless to say,
large colorful maps receive more credit (read
Ducats) than the boring black and white maps I
    pass out.
  •
  • Chief Diplomat
  • This person is responsible for communication with
other dukedoms and for the arrangements of
treaties, alliances, and other matters. This
person should understand that some deviousness
might be required during the game to benefit his
or her dukedom. This person may not be the only
person communicating with other dukedoms but this
person will be expected to be aware of the
    goings-on.
  • Marshall
  • This person should serve as the chief military
advisor to the duke and will have to work with
all other advisors. They must be constantly
aware of other dukedoms options including the
purchase of mercenaries, size of regular forces,
and weapons available to both his dukedom and
    others.
  • Scribe
  • Records the happenings in your dukedom as well as
    those around you

4
Let the Chaos Begin!
  • In a moment, the Knights will be let loose to
    forge alliances with the Dukes.
  • Knights can only be loyal to one Duke
  • You must be chivalrous!
  • Decide who is going to serve as your dukedoms
    treasurer, cartographer, diplomat, scribe and
    marshal
  • You must create a flag for your dukedom to
    display during the game
  • Quality of flag will be rewarded with gold!
  • You may use this time to create anything else you
think might be rewarded with gold

5
Due Process for Each Round
  • Distribution/Collection of Funds (Each Dukedom
    starts with 500 ducats)
  • Homework stamps 200 ducats
  • This is when you can buy mercenaries (soldiers
    for hire)
  • 1 ducat each
  • Maximum of 2,000 per round
  • Only used for that round
  • Fate Roll
  • Legal Segment
  • Forging of Alliances (to be put in writing and
    approved by Pope)
  • You all have multiple borders- you might want to
form an alliance/nonaggression pact with one of
    your neighbors!
  • Annexation of Territory
  • If you choose to combine your territory with
another country both countries will automatically
loose half of their total wealth and half of
their fighting points for the next round.
  • Battle Strategy
  • Placement of troops
  • - - 400 soldiers if you attack a fief with a
    castle
