History
  • Been going on for last 10 years
  • Aim is to help courses adhere to the standards
which are required to accredit their graduates as
    individual practitioners
  • Accredited a number of courses, recently IAPT
courses have been big area of work
  • Overseen by committee, chaired by me, linked in
    closely with individual practitioner
    accreditation
  • Liaison with other bodies, IAPT etc

practice required to meet all the Minimum
    Training Standards

  • Offers CBT meeting quality criteria although
quantity not sufficient for graduates to achieve
    full MTS

    validation
  • Letter outlining documentation necessary for this
sent to course from BABCP and course submits

    arranged
  • Report produced by BABCP panel
  • Information for individual accreditation panel
    agreed

How is course appraised?
  • Contemporary Course Accreditation Document (2008)
used as assessment tool to appraise course
  • Course assessed on quality quantity
  • Only content that meets quality standards counts
    towards quantity
  • How long? How much teaching, on what topics?
  • Supervised practice/Supervision?
  • How many clients supervised/non-supervised? etc

8
Quality of training criteria
  • Post-grad level validated by university

    provides training in KSA)
  • Course team and supervisors personally accredited
    by BABCP (exceptions allowed)
  • Contracts necessary to manage clinical work and
supervision not carried out in house

9
Quality cont.
  • Course content consistent with MTS and cover the
breadth of topics necessary to meet the MTS
  • Number of hours delivered, on what topics will
form part of info submitted to individual
    accreditation panel
  • Delivered by BABCP accredited individuals or
    international equivalent

10
Supervised practice
  • Contracts, quality assurance process
  • Must be monitored by mandatory course assessment
    or log books
  • Only supervised practice carried out by BABCP
accredited individuals can count towards criteria
  • Access to individual supervision if group used
  • Should expose trainees to CBT clinical work
reaching a minimum standard (8 cases, 3 closely
supervised, 3 different types of problems for
    level 2)

reach agreed criteria on a recognised CT scale or
    equivalent method

12

    CBT
  • Course have to demonstrate how the course meets
    Pilling and Roth competencies
  • Clinical work assessment formalised
  • Essential for both academic and clinical
    assessments to be course requirements

13
How long does accreditation last?
  • 5 years in first instance
  • But, any significant changes to course team,
