The State of the Program
  • The good
  • Huge success of the incoming Freshman Class
  • Continued success of placing athletes into the
    college ranks
  • We had a very successful fall campaign
  • Continued growth in numbers of players with
interest in participating with the program
(Averaging more than 30 players at workouts and
we are expecting more than 50 for tryouts)
  • The players have a renewed determination to do
whatever it takes to return Daniel Boone Baseball
to the ranks of the top teams in the league,
    district, and state.
  • The Bad
  • From an on field performance standpoint it was a
    tough season last year
  • From an off field standpoint there were way too
many issues with players getting themselves into
    trouble
  • We experienced our first academic eligibility
    issues on the varsity roster

4
The State of the Program Continued
  • The future
  • This season as we will focus on building a true
team, work to build a complete program, and
develop tradition to build upon in the coming
    years.
  • Our focus will continue to be presenting a unit
that is disciplined in the way we play and in the
way we conduct ourselves both on the field and
    off the field.
  • Through hard work and dedication to becoming
better in all areas of the game we will work to
restore the pride and success that we believe we
are capable of. Through improvements to the
coaching staff, changes in training, execution,
and philosophies of how we approach the game it
is our goal to return to the post season and
stick around for the trophy presentations.

5
The Goals of our Program
  • Mission Statement Develop student-athletes who
are committed to achieving excellence in the
classroom, on the field, and in the community.
  • This means if you want to play you must be a
success in the classroom, this is your first
priority. If you are not eligible you will not
tryout. We want to market every kid who wants to
play collegiately to colleges. If your grades
are poor you simply have no shot.
  • As coaches we want to teach the game. We want
players who want to learn, work hard, and be part
of the team. If you believe in I and me, run
track. This is what it takes to succeed on the
field. There is much more to it then stats.
  • In the community we want baseball players to be
known as good kids. We do not want trouble
makers or party goers. If those are the things
you love, stay away. This also pertains to how
we conduct ourselves on the field. We do not
want to be known as the team with foul mouths and
    bad tempers.
  • Win!

6
Offseason Player Expectations
  • Priority number 1- maintain exemplary grades.
You are always expected to be a student first.
Do not wait until the season to start keeping up.
If you are in need of help academically ask your
teachers, your coaches, and your teammates for
    help.
  • Priority number 1A- Stay out of trouble.
Detentions, suspensions, and trouble outside of
the classroom are a good way to end up in the
coaches doghouse and eventually find yourself
off the team. Be a role model. Be a positive
    part of your community.
  • Priority number 2- prepare for the season
  • Weight training is a must
  • Attend Open Gyms

7
Offseason Schedule
  • It is hard to believe that we are already into
the first week of February. Tryouts are less
than a month away. Presently we will continue to
work out every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
We may look to add an additional day once winter
    sports end.
  • In addition to our time in the gym working on
skills this next month in pivotal in building the
strength and conditioning your bodies will need
for the season. Strength and conditioning should
be taking place 3-4 times a week at this point in
    the year.

8
Tryouts
  • March 3-6 with times and locations to be
    announced at a later date.
  • The evaluation process will focus on an
examination of skill, athleticism, and baseball
    IQ.
  • Each skill will be assessed using a rubric which
awards points. Teams will be selected based upon
points earned when compared to other players and
within a position which a given player may be
    trying out for.
  • Team selection and assignment is based upon skill
and potential and not upon past accomplishments,
    grade, or other non-evaluated factors.

9
Tryouts continued
  • Teams will be announced by an individual meeting
    with each player.
  • During these meetings we will share with the
player our expectations for them during the
coming season and things they need to improve
    upon for continued improvement.
  • For players not making the team we will share
with them areas where they can improve in order
to prepare for summer teams or to improve in an
effort to tryout again in the future.

10
Fundraising
  • Fundraising continues to be an area that needs to
be done. We are working with a nonexistent
budget and have a great deal of needs. To date
we have worked to develop three sources of
fundraising that we will use to cover team
    expenses for this year.
  • Where will the money raised go this year
  • Equipment- our budget has been slashed and we are
in desperate need of new equipment for training
    and for games.
  • We provide everything for the team short of a
portion of the game ball expense (they are not
    completely covered again this year)
  • Support team building activities like trips and
    activities.

11
Fundraising Continued
  • We are always looking for volunteers to take
    charge of fundraising efforts.
  • Volunteers can help to create new fundraising
    methods
  • Run team fundraisers
  • Help to coordinate team finances
  • Source of Revenue 1- Lottery
  • This is our biggest and most important
    fundraiser.
  • This fundraiser is the one that will support the
acquisition of many of the needed items for the
season (hats, socks, new uniform pants, practice
    baseballs, team bats)
  • This will be our only preseason fundraiser and
will need to be completed this month.
  • Incentives for this fundraiser will be geared so
that all players participating can benefit.

12
The Lottery Calendar
  • How does the lottery work?
  • It is simple. For 10.00 a person can purchase a
lottery calendar for the month of March. The
winner for each day in March is based upon the
evening daily number. Winners will receive the
    amount shown on the ticket.
  • To complete the sale, simply fill our the stub
portion of the lottery ticket and collect it with
the payment. Patrons will then keep the calendar
side of the ticket to follow as the contest runs.
  • Patrons paying by check should make checks
    payable to Daniel Boone Baseball.

13
The Lottery Calendar Continued
  • Incentives As reward for selling 20 tickets,
you will receive a team performance logo t-shirt.
  • If you are able to sell an additional 20 tickets
you will receive a heavy weight team jacket.
  • If you are able to sell an additional 20 tickets
you will receive your choice of a team cage
jacket or a team thermal pullover.
  • The highest ticket seller will receive a choice
of a new BBCor bat of their choice up to 275.00
    in price.
  • The second highest seller will receive a wooden
bat of their choice up to 125.00 in value

14
The Lottery Calendar Continued
  • Timeline for the sale
  • All ticket sales are final on 2/28
  • Any tickets received after the final collection
at the team open gym on 3/1 will be considered
    void.
  • All envelopes that are completely sold should be
turned in at any open gym, or can be dropped off
    to Coach Bailey.
  • Players may request additional tickets upon
    returning their initial sold packs.
  • Players who are not able to sell their tickets
should return them immediately. The shortcomings
in our sale often are the result of players
holding onto tickets for far too long.

15
The Lottery Calendar Continued
  • Lottery Ticket Blitz Day
  • On Saturday, February 15 we will hold a lottery
    ticket blitz day.
  • On the 15th we will hold our open gym as
scheduled until 1100. At 1100 we will provide
the players and parent volunteers in attendance
with lunch. During this lunch time we will
assign regions to be covered. After lunch
players will be dispersed to assigned regions to
attempt to sell as many tickets as they can.
Players will work in pairs and small groups to
complete sales. It will be our goal to
completely sell out all of our tickets on this
    day.

16
The Lottery Calendar Continued
  • During this blitz day their will be additional
competitions between sales groups for great
prizes and also for great fun.
  • To make this day happen we will need the
    following
  • Parents to help with organization and
    transportation of players
  • All lottery tickets to be turned in to be sold on
    this date
  • Perhaps permission to set up sales tables at
    local retailers
  • Mr. Baileys room will serve as home base for
this day. Our sale will run from approximately
    1130-200.

17
Other sources of revenue
  • During the season we will hold two additional
fundraisers to raise funds for the purchase of
    additional equipment.
  • Sale Number 2- Sandwich Sale
  • March 10-March 31
  • This sale will be run in with the help of
    Corropolese Italian Bakery and Deli.
  • The sale will involve the sale of coupons that
can be redeemed for sandwiches at Corropolese.
  • Sale Number 3- Carwash
  • Ticket Presales will begin March 24 with a
tentative Carwash date scheduled for Saturday,
    April 5.
