Abandoned Equipment Information Exchanged
  • Two Basic Categories of Abandoned Equipment
  • Abandoned - Equipment that is physically isolated
from active energy sources (Electrically and/or
    mechanically)
  • Inactive - Equipment that is identified as
inactive. It is still physically connected to
    active energy sources

3
Equipment Status Control Discussion Identified
The Above Categories Are Controlled Differently
  • Abandoned Equipment
  • Physically isolated (electrically and/or
    mechanically
  • Documented on Design Drawings as being abandoned
    and isolated

4
Abandoned Equipment (Continued)
  • Procedures identify equipment status requirements
  • Equipment labeled in field as abandoned

6
Inactive Equipment
  • Identified on controlled lists as being inactive
  • Monthly PI of how many SSCs are identified as
    inactive

7
Inactive Equipment (Continued)
  • Lists are reviewed periodically
  • Annually (Duke) assessed for impact
  • Bi-Annually (APS) for prioritizing into the mod
    process for abandoning
  • Equipment physically connected to active energy
    sources

8
Inactive Equipment (Continued)
  • Equipment labeled in plant as inactive (Duke)
  • Equipment identified in equipment database as
    inactive (Duke)
  • Design drawings still show equipment as being
    actively installed

General Discussion Items
  • Budget
  • Funding required to develop mod packages to
    abandon equipment
  • Process should identify cost of removal as part
    of total mod cost

11
General Discussion Items (Continued)
  • PM Program Impact
  • Equipment maintenance requirements if abandoned
  • Existing PMS need to be addressed

12
General Discussion Items (Continued)
  • Operation Surveillance Impact
  • Current surveillance test requirements need to be
    addressed
  • Are different surveillance requirements needed

13
General Discussion Items (Continued)
  • Environmental/Safety Hazards
  • Equipment contents disposal requirements
  • Personnel safety impacts need to be addressed
