Definition of Youth
  • Young men and women between 15-29 years

Youth Profile
  • In Sri Lanka, 26 percent of the total population
    of 20 million is youth .
  • Over 5 million are between 15-29 years of age.
  • 84 percent of youth live in rural areas.
  • 34.7 percent of young people are dependents.
  • Youth participation in the labour force is 64.4
    percent males and 50.7 percent females .

  • Admissions to general education - 331,995
  • Sat for GCE (O/L) - 310,642
  • Sat for GCE ( A/L) - 172,576
  • Qualified for University entrance - 142,381

  • Go for unskilled Employ. (12.1) - 40,000
