Title: Aim: What organelles are found in Eukaryotic cells?

1
Aim What organelles are found in Eukaryotic
cells?
  • Do now
  • Explain 1 difference between a prokaryotic cell
    and a eukaryotic cell.

2
Review Cell Types
  • Prokaryotic
  • Eukaryotic

3
Noticing Deeply Eukaryotic Cells
4
Plant Cell Vs. Animal Cell
  • Plant Cells have a square shape
  • Animal cells have a round shape

5
Cell Organelles and their Functions
6
The little cell parts are called
organelles. Each organelle does a specific job
for the cell.
What are organelles?
7
Organelles Found in Both Plant and Animal Cells
  • Plasma membrane (cell membrane)
  • Cytoplasm
  • Ribosomes
  • Endoplasmic reticulum
  • Nucleus
  • Vacuoles
  • Mitochondria

8
Organelles and their function
9
Cell Membrane
  • The cell membrane protects the cell and allows
some things in and out of the cell.

10
Cytoplasm
  • Cytoplasm is the watery gel (Jello!) inside a
cell.its goop! It holds the ORGANelles.

11
Mitochondria
  • Mitochondria is an ORGANelle that releases energy
    from food.
  • Every type of cell has a different amount of
mitochondria. There are more mitochondria in
cells that have to perform lots of work, for
example - your leg muscle cells. Other cells
need less energy to do their work and have less
    mitochondria.

12
Nucleus
  • The nucleus controls the cell.
  • It is the largest organelle in the cell and
    contains the cells DNA.

13
Chromosomes
  • Chromosomes are inside the nucleus and are made
    of genes (DNA).
  • Genes decide the cells traits and activities
(heart cell, eye cell - such as color).

14
Cell Differentiation
  • Every cell has the same exact DNA but
  • Each kind of cell has a DIFFERENT job to doit is
    specialized.

Im a Prison Cell! ?
I am a heart cell!
I am a skin cell
15
Vacuoles
  • Vacuoles are storage spaces in the cell where
    food and chemicals are stored

16
Endoplasmic Reticulum
  • It is a network of membranes throughout the
    cytoplasm of the cell.
  • It helps to move materials around the cell.

17
Golgi apparatus
  • It is organelle in the cell that is responsible
for sorting and correctly shipping the proteins
    produced in the ER.
  • They also package proteins to be moved out of the
    cell.

18
Ribosomes
  • Organelles that help in the synthesis (the
    making) of proteins.

19
Some organelles are found only in plant cells
20
Cell Wall
  • Cell Walls are only in plant cells
  • They make the cell strong and rigid and give it
    its square shape.

21
Chloroplasts
  • Chloroplasts are only in plant cells
  • They contain chlorophyll, which helps make
    energy/food from sunlight through photosynthesis.
  • Chlorophyll is green in color.

22
See the Chloroplast?
23
Organelle found only in animal cells.
24
Lysosomes
  • Lysosomes contain chemicals that help break down
food molecules, wastes, and worn out cell parts.

The lysosomes are stained RED!
25
Whats the Difference? (Turn and Talk)
  • So what are two things that Plant cells have that
    animal cells dont?

?
Chloroplasts, vacuoles, Cell Walls
26
Activity
  • Identify the Cell Organelles
  • Using your notes work with your partner to find
the organelle that matches the riddle.
  • We will review

27
HW
