William Crawford. -Jackson won popular vote but
did not win majority of electoral vote,
election goes to House of Representatives -Cla
y (speaker of house) threw his support to
Adams who won -Adams named Clay his Secretary of
State -Jackson calls it a Corrupt Bargain
-Tariff with higher import duties for goods
bought by Southerners -Calhoun protests and
suggests that federal law harmful to state
could be declared void by state -South
Carolina threatens to secede -Jackson threatens
to send in the military
