U.S. electricity consumers demand a higher degree
of reliability than from any other system.

  • Will renewable generators
  • be compensated for their availability during peak

  • be required to provide reactive power?
  • be dispatched in the same manner as non-renewable
    resources?
  • Will new energy products need to be developed to
    reflect the variable nature of renewable
    resources, and, if so, what types of products?

generators, but Dont count on the renewables
being there.

System Control - Ramping
  • Ramping probably is the largest issue with high
    penetration of renewable generation
  • Accurate load forecasting is a necessity for
    proper system operations
  • Control of Renewable Resources is critical for
    the System Operator
  • Impose Ramp Limits?
  • Partial or full curtailments
  • Actions taken in a timely manner for operations
