Title: POLITICAL PARTIES

greater burden on the rich and large
corporations, and they prefer spending on social
programs to spending on defense. Today most
African Americans, along with Jews, liberals, and
labor unions, support the party, which since the

were generally considered the defenders of
    northeastern and business interests. protective
tariff - a tariff imposed to protect domestic
firms from import competition In the 1920s, the

    reasonably accurate, if simplistic, description
    of basic Republican views.
