INGESTED OR SWALLOWED POISONS
  • MOST COMMON WITH CHILDREN UNDER AGE OF FIVE
  • Cleaning agents, plants, and drugs (aspirin, cold
    and cough remedies, etc.)most common
  • Most absorption takes place after the poison
    passes into the small intestine, very little
    happens in the stomach.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Abdominal pain and cramping
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Burns, odor, or stain around mouth
  • Drowsiness or unconsciousness
  • Poison containers nearby

WHAT TO DO
  • Determine critical information
  • Call poison control center- if responsive
  • Call 9-1-1 if unresponsive
  • Place victim in recovery position
  • Induce vomiting only if a poison control center
    or physician advises it.
