Nouns Sustantivos (S)
  • Names of persons, places, things, feelings, or
    ideas.
  • Proper nouns are names of people and places.
  • Common nouns are everything else you can touch or
    feel.
  • Examples
  • Juan compró un carro nuevo.
  • Me gusta el café de Starbucks.
  • El amor es bello.

Verbs Verbos (V.)
  • The action or doing words in a sentence.
  • Verbs give you the tense of the sentence.
  • Examples
  • Juan compró un carro nuevo.
  • Me gusta el café de Starbucks.
  • El amor es bello.

Adjectives Adjetivos (Adj.)
  • Describe or modify only nouns.
  • Color
  • Size
  • Quantity
  • Quality old, new, used, etc.
  • Answer questions, what kind? or how many?
  • Usually places after the noun.
  • Examples
  • Juan compró un carro nuevo.
  • Me gusta el café frio de Starbucks.
  • El amor es bello.

Pronouns Pronmbres (Pro.)
  • Words that replace a proper or common noun in a
    sentence.
  • Used to avoid repetition and redundancy.
  • Examples
  • Él lo compró nuevo.
  • Me gusta el café frio.
  • El amor es bello. Pienso que es cierto.

Prepositions Preposiciones (Prep.)
  • A prepositional phrase is a group of words
    describing things which starts with a preposition
    and ends with a noun or pronoun.
  • Most prepositions are small, common words
    indicating time, place or position.

  • Encima de, dentro, arriba, encontra de, alrededor
    de, a traves de
  • Some just have to be memorized
  • en, con, de, por, para

Adverbs Adverbios (Adv.)
  • Describe or modify verbs, adjectives, or other
    adverbs.
  • Answer the adverb questions How? When? Where?
    Why? Under what conditions?
  • Always adverbs not very, often, here, almost,
    always, never, there
  • In Spanish, words that end in mente are adverbs
    (-ly words in English)
  • Examples
  • Él corrió rapidamente.
  • La casa es muy grande.
  • Me gusta leer mucho!

Conjunctions Conjunciones (Cnj.)
  • Words which hook words, phrases, or sentences.
  • Usually the if, and, or, but, yet, so
  • They include when, as, if, since, because,
    while, after, although, before
  • Examples
  • Juan y Sara fueron a comer.
  • No me gusta el jamon ni el queso.
  • Quieres una hamburguesa o pizza.

Interjections Interjecciones (Int.)
  • Words which show emotion or are fillers with no
    other function.
  • Usually, the sound effects
  • Example
  • Oh, I am surprised.
  • O! Estoy sorprendida.
  • Ouch, it hurts!
  • Ay, me duele!
