Steve Jobs, the innovative co-founder of Apple
who transformed personal use of technology as
well as entire industries with products such as
the iPod, iPad, iPhone, Macintosh computer and
the iTunes music store, died. He had been
suffering from pancreatic cancer and was 56.

  • PHILLIES play Friday at 837 in the final and
    deciding game of the NLDS playoffs.
  • In a statement to supporters, Sarah Palin, the
    2008 vice presidential nominee, said she would
    not seek the Republican nomination for the White
    House by entering what is already a crowded
    field.
  • Thursday marks the 20th day of Wall Street
    protests and the grassroots demonstrations
    against income inequality, corporate greed and
    other social ills appears to be increasing. The
    crowds at the "Occupy Wall Street" rally on
    Wednesday seemed to be the largest since the
    protests started. At the event, protesters and
    officers scuffled and New York police arrested 28
    people for various offenses including one facing
    charges of assaulting an officer.
  • The Nobel Prize in literature will be announced
    today in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • In part due to the huge success of The Lion King
    3-D, Disney is going to re-release four other
    classic animated films in the same medium,
    starting with "Beauty and The Beast on January
    13. According to a press release, Disney/Pixars
    "Finding Nemo" will return for a limited
    engagement on September 14, 2012, followed by
    Disney/Pixars "Monsters, Inc." on January 18,
    2013 (prequel Monsters University arrives in
    theaters on June 21, 2013). Last but not least,
    "The Little Mermaid" hits theaters in 3-D on
    September 13, 2013.
