1
Introduction
  • The theme of our work is natural wonders. We
think everybody knows about such natural wonders
as Stonehenge,Lockness and others. But do you
know anything about such wonders in our country?
We were looking for some information about
Natural Wonders in Russia, Of course, we decided
to explore Chelyabinsk region. To get
information we used Internet, libraries. We found
a lot of information at http//ru.wikipedia.org/
Now we can tell you about some Natural Wonders in
    Russia and in Chelyabinsk region.

2
Arcaim ( Chelyabinsk region)
  • Although the settlement was burned and abandoned,
a lot of details are preserved. The settlement
was protected by two circular walls. There was a
central square, surrounded by two circles of
dwellings separated by a street. The diameter of
the enclosing wall was 160 m. It was built from
earth packed into timber frames, and reinforced
with unburned clay brick, with thickness of 4-5
    m. and height of 5.5 m. The settlement was
surrounded with a 2-meter-deep moat. There are 4
entrances into the settlement through the outer
and the inner walls with the main entrance to the
    west.

3
  • The dwellings were between 110 and 180 square
meters in area. The outer ring of dwellings
number 39 or 40, with entrances to a circular
street in the middle of the settlement. The
central street was drained by a covered channel.
Approximately 1500 to 2500 people could have
lived in the settlement. Surrounding Arkaim's
walls, were arable fields, 130 to 140 metres by
45 metres, irrigated by a system of canals.

4
Kungur Ice Cave
  • Another Natural Wonder in Russia is Kungur Ice
Cave. Kungur Ice Cave is located on the right
bank of the Sylva River. This cave is a real
wonder of nature. March is the best time to visit
    the cave.

5
Geysers of Kamchatka
  • The "pulsating" geysers of Kamchatka were
discovered by a local scientist, Tatiana
Ustinova, in 1941. Over thirty geysers were given
names among these was the Giant geyser
(Velikan), capable of producing a jet of water
reaching up to 40 meters. Foreign tourists were
allowed into the valley in 1991.

6
Lake Baikal
  • Lake Baikal is in Siberia in Russia, located
between Irkutsk Region to the northwest and the
Buryat Republic to the southeast, near the city
of Irkutsk. It is also known as the "Blue Eye of
Siberia". Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the
world and is the largest freshwater lake by
    volume (23,000 km³), containing approximately
twenty percent of the world's total surface fresh
    water.

7
  • Baikal is the home to more than 1,700 species
of plants and animals, some of them can be found
nowhere else in the world and was declared a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

The bottom of the lake is 1,285 metres below sea.
The lake is located in the deepest continental
rift on the Earth. In geological terms, the rift
is young and activeit widens about two
centimeters per year. The lake drains into the
Angara and Yenisei rivers.
8
Klyuchevskaya Sopka.
  • Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest mountain on
the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia. The volcano's
steep, symmetrical cone towers are a mere 100 km
(60 miles) from the Bering Sea. The volcano is a
part of the natural UNESCO World Heritage Site
    Volcanoes of Kamchatka.

9
  • Beginning in early January, 2007, the
    Klyuchevskaya volcano began another eruption
cycle. On June 28, 2007, the volcano began to
experience the largest explosions so far recorded
in this eruption cycle. An ash plume from the
eruption reached a height of 32,000 feet before
drifting westward, disrupting air traffic from
the United States to Asia and causing ashfalls on
    Alaska's Unimak Island.

10
Mount Elbrus
  • Mount Elbrus is the peak located in the western
    Caucasus mountains, in Kabardino-Balkaria and
Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia, near the border of
Georgia. A stratovolcano that has lain dormant
for about 2,000 years, it is the highest mountain
in the Caucasus which belongs to Europe

11
  • Mount Elbrus and its two peaksThe Soviet Union
encouraged ascents of Elbrus, and in 1956 it was
climbed en masse by 400 mountaineers to mark the
400th anniversary of the incorporation of
    Kabardino-Balkaria, the Autonomous Soviet
Socialist Republic where Elbrus was located

12
  • We have told you about only a few Natural Wonders
located in Russia. Our country is big enough and
there are a lot of Natural Wonders. We must know
as more as we can and be proud of them.
