• There are many others and also crossovers between
  genres.

The CRTC

• Canadian Radio-Television and Communications
  Commission
• At times, many musicians feel the need to leave
  Canada to have a prosperous career.
• In 1929, the Canadian government began to believe
  that the Canadian radio airwaves should contain
  Canadian content.
• 1958 Broadcasting Act introduced the Board of
  Broadcast Governors (BBG) to ensure that the
  Canadian system was basically Canadian in
  content and character.
• The BBG became the CRTC in 1979.

• The CRTC is to protect and promote Canadian
  culture.
• To ensure that Canadians are offered information
  and entertainment from a Canadian Point of
  View.
• Radio and TV must devote a specific amount of
  time each day to Canadian content.
• This means more opportunity for Canadian artists
  to be heard.
