Childhood Information
  • Lance was born on September 18, 1971 in Planto,
    Texas. When Lance was a child, most kids played
    football or baseball. Lance felt left out because
    he wasnt as fast as all the other kids. (Amazing
    Athletes) Lance liked to run and swim in the
    triathlons (Amazing Athletes)

Background Information
  • Now Lance has twin daughters, Grace and Isabelle.
    He also has a son named Luke. Unfortunately, he
    recently divorced his wife, Kristen Armstrong.(
    Every Second Counts) Lance also, used to be
    called Mellow Johnny because Maillot Jaune,
    French for Yellow Jersey.( Wikipedia.com)

  • When Lance was a child, his mom told him to
    never give up and to always work hard. Also, when
    he was a kid he found that he had stamina. That
    helped him find his career as a cyclist. (Lance

Accomplishments
  • In 1984, Lance won the Iron Kids Triathlon when
    he was only 13. Also, Lance represented the
    United States at the 1996 Olympic Games in
    Atlanta, Georgia.( Lance Armstrong, 2005) Another
    accomplishment he had was when Lance won the Tour
    de France 7 times from 1999 to 2005. Lance also
    recently ran the Boston and the New York City
    Marathon coming in at 247 minutes.

  • Lance Armstrong is famous because after his
    cancer he won 7 Tour de Frances in a row. He was
    also the only man to do so.

Challenges
  • When Lance went to the doctor for his 1st time
    with cancer, he had some X-rays. Black meant
    clear white meant cancer, his chest looked like
    a snow storm. (Every Second Counts) Another
    challenge was when he was a baby, his parents
    divorced and he was raised by his mother. His mom
    told him to never give up and to always work
    hard. (Lance Armstrong) Lastly, Lances cancer
    was called testicular cancer. The cancer spread
    through his stomach, lungs and his brain. Lance
    beat cancer by 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 2
    surgeries.

  • What are two or three challenges this individual
    had to overcome? How did they overcome those
    challenges?
  • Some challenges Lance Armstrong had were cancer
    in his lungs, abdomen and brain. He got rid of
    the cancer with two surgeries and four cycles of
    chemotherapy. Another challenge he had was that
    he grew up without a father and was raised by his
    mother. To keep his hopes up, his mom told him to
    never give up and to work hard all the time.

  • I admire Lance Armstrong because he is an
    inspiration to my family. When my mom had cancer,
    we went through a lot of tough times and Im sure
    that his family did too.
