  • Small group and partner work.
  • We use a lot of manipulatives!
  • Topics Covered Addition, Subtraction,
    Time, Money, Geometry,
    Measurement, Graphing, and Patterns
  • Some math homework will be given Monday-Friday in
    the homework book and/or folder.

  • Flexible Groups
  • Groups meet every day
  • Small group instruction includes reading as well
    as skill work.
  • Books are assigned according to reading ability.
  • Sight word study through word rings
  • Students are required to read their book EVERY
    night and bring it back to school EVERY day.

If your child is not at reading group they will
  • Working on a follow-up assignment from reading
    group. (independently)
  • This is a great time for volunteers!!! ?
  • Centers - Working around the room at various
    learning stations that review skills previously
    taught in class.
  • Phonics independent practice of phonics skills,
    phonemic awareness, and other related skill work.

School Wide Behavior System
  • CIRCLE system students will receive a circle if
    they are inappropriate, disrespectful,
    disruptive, aggressive.
  • W Warning - this is JUST a warning.
  • T Time Out. You will get a note explaining why
    your child received a time out.
  • L Letter. Your child will write a letter
    explaining what went wrong and how they can make
    better choices next time.
  • R Referral. Student will be sent to the office
    and written up with a referral.
  • A Automatic. Student will skip all the above
    steps and immediately get a referral.

Card Colors for Behavior System
  • Green Good day with only a Warning Circle or
    better! Homework completed and remembered reading
    book and word cards. ?
  • Yellow Time-out. Child has already been given
    an official warning and continued to make poor
    choices. A Homework Yellow is a reminder.
  • Blue Letter Home. Child has been given an
    official warning, time-out, and continued to make
    poor choices.
  • Red Referral. Warning, time-out, and letter
    were in place and child needs to be removed from
    the classroom environment to speak with Mr.
    DeGrange. This would also be the case with an
    Automatic Referral.

Reward Philosophy
  • Character Counts! ticket given to a child that
    shows remarkable character above and beyond
    will receive a certificate and a special reward
    from Mrs. Mitchell.
  • EAGLE TICKETS Used to reward positive
    behavior. (Caught you being good!)
  • Children get to put their tickets in a can to be
    chosen for a school wide prize.
  • Prize Bin Awarded to children who go above and
    beyond or have received a compliment from someone
    outside our classroom (Staff, Volunteers, etc.)

Homework Book and Folder
  • Please make sure books are signed every night
    (Monday - Thursday)
  • This lets us know you have reviewed the
    assignment and card color with your child.
  • The assignment should be completed by the child
    and checked by an adult. If your child is having
    difficulty, take some time to go over the
    assignment with them.
  • Reading assignment homework Please listen to
    your child as they read.
  • HOMEWORK should take about 15 minutes each night
    plus nightly reading.
  • No Homework on Fridays and weekends.

How can I help my child?
  • Read the Friday Notes and participate with your
  • Read with them every day.
  • Guide them when doing homework.
  • Reinforce good behavior at home
  • Be positive and show an interest in their work.

  • We celebrate un-birthdays for children who have
    summer birthdays!
  • Feel free to bring in individually wrapped
  • Please bring enough for the entire class. (19
    students this year and 1 hungry teacher ?)
  • We sing Happy Birthday in the room and then
    share the treats in the cafeteria at lunch.

Feel free to write a note to your child. They
can read it in the morning. ? (Pencils or
crayons in their desks) Have a good evening!
