- The Course Selection sheet is like a contract
- Schools are staffed and time-tabled according to
the information on these forms - Only those courses with a sufficient number of
students registered (by April 2015) will be
offered - Those with low enrolment will be cancelled for
the 2015-16 school year - This may occur after Course Verification Sheets
are sent out, so make sure you have alternate
choices for ALL ELECTIVES just in case

- Art 8
- Introductory course to the elements and
principles of design using a wide varieties of
media, such as drawing, painting, ceramics,
sculpture, stained glass, jewellery making
printmaking - Dance 8
- Beginner level course will teach students basic
dance technique and performance qualities
developed from the elements of movement - Students can expect to improve in strength,
flexibility, stamina, balance and coordination
in addition to building confidence and trust with
one another - Students can expect to work individually, in
small groups, and with dance leadership students
in creating one or more class dance pieces - Drama 8
- Introductory course covering many aspects of
drama, both as a technique for discovery and
exploration and as a performance art - Though students will have ample opportunity to
develop a wide range of performances, Drama 8 IS
NOT a course in acting

- Beginner Concert Band 8
- Intended for students who have no previous
experience in a band program. - Students will learn ensemble playing and teamwork
as they improve and increase their skills on
brass or percussion instruments - Junior Concert Band 8
- Intended for students who have studied in a band
program on their instrument for at least 1 year - Students will learn ensemble playing and teamwork
as they improve and increase their skills on
wind, brass, or percussion instruments - Orchestra (Strings) 8
- For passionate musicians on either wind or
stringed instruments - A minimum of 3 years on your instrument is
recommended - Individual musical development is encouraged
through solo as well as small group performances - Choir 8
- Introduces and explores group vocal training
through group singing, supported with some basic
music theory

interested students - Find out what you can really do challenge
yourself - Grade 11 Honours courses are prerequisites to AP
courses in Grade 12

currently inFoundations Pre-Calculus 10 or 10H
Students may take more than 1 Advanced Placement
(AP) Science course at the same time. AP
Statistics can be taken at any time after a
student has completed Foundations Pre-Calculus
10H. Students taking AP Calculus AB or BC need to
also register in Pre-Calculus 12 H
concurrently. Students CANNOT take AP Calculus AB
and AP Calculus BC at the same time.

- Innovative District program offered at South for
students entering Grade 11 only - Students learn to apply critical and creative
thinking, argumentation, collaborative problem
solving and research skills done in a
cross-curricular context - A separate District application is required for

addition to the regular course selection form) - Get grade 7 subject area teacher signature
- Write Honours Entrance Exam _at_ Burnaby South
- Math ? Tuesday April 7th at 400pm
- Science ? Wednesday, April 8th at 400pm
- English Socials ? Thursday, April 9th at 400pm
A letter will be sent home to parents in May,
2015 stating results of the placement test.
