• Plateaus- raised areas of level land bordered on
  one or more sides by steep slopes or cliffs.
• Much of China is made up of plateaus.
• China and Mongolia are the only countries in Asia
  with plateaus and plains.

The Loess Plateau covers some 640,000 square
kilometers in northwest China

The Himalayas

• 50 million years old
• Collision of continents formed the Himalayas and
  the Plateau of Tibet.
• Highest mountains in the world
• Includes Mt. Everest- highest peak in world.

• Erupting volcanoes formed new mountains
• Mt. Fuji is actually a volcano
• Mt. Fuji hasnt erupted since 1707
