    system, hardware.
  • Provide examples of hardware device that handle
input, output, motherboard and storage task.
  • differentiate type of input device and output
    device.

1) Introduction of computer
  • What is computer?
  • A programmable machine. The two principal of
    characteristic of a computer are
  • 1)It responds to a specific set of instructions
    in a well-defined manner.
  • 2)It can execute a prerecorded list of
    instructions (a program).
  • Evolution of computer

Type of computer
  • Computers can be generally classified by size and
power as follows, though there is considerable
    overlap
  • 1) personal computer
  • 2) minicomputer
  • 3) mainframe
  • 4) supercomputer

6
Computer system
  • Collection of related component that have been
designed to work together. Their perform four
basic operations input, output, processing and
    storage.

Input
  • What is input?
  • Any data or instructions you enter into the
    memory of the computer
  • Users can input data and instructions in a
    variety of ways.
  • Example (keyboard,mouse etc)

Storage
  • Storage that the computer saves the result of
    processing to used again later.
  • Storage devices hold all of the program and data
    that the computer uses.
  • Example of devices is a hard disk, a floppy
disk, CD ROM or DVD ROM.
