    act like them in a sentence.

Types of Verbals Learn them!
  • Gerunds
  • Participles
  • Infinitives

Gerunds
  • A verb ending in ing that acts like a noun
  • Dancing is awesome!
  • Eating is even better!
  • A gerund phrase is a gerund modifiers
  • Square dancing is corny.
  • Eating nasty food is worse.

Participle
  • A verb (ending in ing, -ed, -t, -n) that
    functions as an adjective.
  • The dancing fool stepped on my foot.
  • The shaken woman cried over the accident.
  • A participial phrase includes its own modifiers
  • Partially eaten corn will show up about a day
    later.
  • The idiot dancing over there is annoying.

Infinitives
  • A verb using the word to in front of it. It can
    function as a noun, adjective or adverb.
  • To eat is to live.
  • I want to dance.
  • Infinitive phrases includes its modifiers.
  • To dance while eating is dangerous.
  • I want to eat eggrolls in the morning.

  • I will read a sentence.
  • You and your partner will decide what type of
    phrase is in the sentence.
  • Write it on the white board, but do not lift it
    until I say GO!

  • Go through your Narrative.
  • Add in the three types of phrases.
  • Highlight and Label it for me so that I know you
    used it.
