What is an Investigation?
  • An investigation is a study or experiment done to
    learn more about a natural occurrence.
  • While doing science investigations, you will be
    asked to follow safety rules.

Safety in the Lab
  • Before you experiment
  • Make sure the teacher or an adult is present to
    supervise.
  • Read the instructions for each science activity
    before you begin.
  • Wear safety equipment that your teacher tells you
    to. If your hair is long, tie it back if asked
    to do so.

  • Follow the instructions step by step in the order
    that they are presented.
  • Never run in the lab or play games during an
    experiment.
  • Do not bring food or drink into the classroom on
    lab days.
  • Check to see that all containers are labeled so
    that you know what substances they hold.

  • Substances used in experiments can be dangerous.
    Only taste them or smell them if your teacher
    tells you to.
  • Mix ingredients only as your activity instructs.
    Playing with ingredients may create dangerous
    substances.
  • Remember, knives and scissors are sharp. Cut
    away from your body.

    your work area.
