Title: Youth Programme within the Province of the Anglican Church of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville

1
Youth Programme within the Province of the
Anglican Church of the Democratic Republic of
Congo and Congo Brazzaville
  • OUR VISION
  • to help young people spiritually and
physically, so that they may truly know God and
    live for Jesus in a pro-active, life-changing
    way.

2
Democratic Republic of the Congo
3
Outreach to children
  • 2015 plans to develop the Sunday School
    department training for teachers, reprinting
    manuals.

4
Outreach to young people
  • 2015 distribution of the 2nd manual now in
Swahili Let us rebuild our beautiful country
  • More training needed in their use.

5
Youth Leaders Training Centre (CFEJ) in Mahagi,
N.E Congo
  • 91 youth leaders trained.
  • During 2013-2014 follow-up visits were made to
Bukavu and Kindu to assess the relevance of the
    course
  • A training course in Kasaï.
  • 2015 to relocate to Bunia and to increase the
    courses to include practical ones.

6
Land for the new youth leaders training centre in
Bunia
7
Diocese of Bukavu Sept 2013with James Kweru from
CMS Africa and Rev Etienne Ungula from CFEJ
  • Bishop Bahati reported that youth leaders
trained in CFEJ become useful leaders in the
    Church.
  • He said we must keep going with the training!
  • Insecurity has been a major problem for young
    people
  • Trauma counselling and reconciliation needed

8
God has blessed the ministry of CFEJ/ISTAS
We were encouraged to hear good reports of the
work being done by our graduates and yet many
work in very difficult, insecure conditions
9
Visit to Kindu 13-19th Decfor assessment and
training
  • The Bishop and clergy support the youth work.
  • Youth leaders are actively involved in ministry
in their archdeaconries. Amisi Ngomo, trained at
CFEJ and at ISTAS is now the Diocesan Youth
    Trainer.
  • Because of vast distances travel is very
  • difficult in this Diocese, often by canoes or
    walking long distances.
  • Some of the youth leaders walked 100km to
    attend our seminar!
  • Bicycles would help them in their ministry.

What a welcome!
10
Training in Mbuji-Mayi, Diocese of the 2 Kasaïs
by Jean-Bosco Tshiswaka from Lubumbashi
Distance is a major hurdle for the Diocese. More
in-depth training and understanding of youth work
needed.
11
Enthusiastic worship
Hunger for Bible study and training
12
In February 2014 we met with the staff from CFEJ
to seek the Lord for the new vision for our youth
centre
13
ISTAS
14
Further Education College in social work in
Mahagi (ISTAS)
  • There has been much conflict amongst the staff
SOMA/Nairobi was greatly used to bring the Gospel
    and reconciliation to many.
  • Possibility of ISTAS becoming part of UAC.
  • Both ISTAS and CFEJ have been sponsored by
Foster Wood Foundation. However the funding
finishes August 2014. Please we need your
    prayers.

15
Peace and Reconciliation
  • In Congo we still have conflict including within
our church. We need to address this as conflict
    seriously affects our young people.
  • In Boga Diocese there was divisive conflict
amongst the leaders. The youth were caught up in
this for nothing. Praise God for SOMA and Flame
    International conferences.
  • After our conference on peace and reconciliation
in Butembo, the young people made the decision to
    work for unity and peace.

16
Helping young people to think through the issues
around conflict.
17
Reaching out to the people from Gety, Diocese of
Boga who have been displaced several times due to
militia insecurity
By helping displaced young adults with food.
18
Rev Azama has a passion to help girls
  • The dormitory in Mahagi enables girls to study
better and to learn social skills
  • Girls workers trained in most of the dioceses.
  • Rape victims in Bukavu, North-Kivu and Kindu need
    particular help.

Lack of funding hinders Azama from travelling and
training as much as is necessary. Due to ill
health she has returned to Kindu and will work
from there when she can.
19
Marthe Kithoko is studying for her Masters in
sociology in Kisangani. She has done much to
help the girls develop in Mahagi.
20
New VentureOutreach to young Pygmies
  • Why have you forgotten us say the Pygmy
    children and teenagers.
  • We want our groups and we want to learn to
read and write to be like
  • other people.
  • Nyipire a graduate from CFEJ speaks their
language and is keen to reach out to the children
and young people with the Gospel and with
    literacy training
  • Pray for funding

21
Praise God for what has been achieved but
  • Lack of funding means we are not able to achieve
    all that we plan
  • The planned visit to Brazzaville has not taken
place due to the expulsion of the D.R Congolese.
  • The conflict in Mahagi took up much time, thus
    limiting other activities further afield.
  • The right solution needed over ISTAS.
  • The state of the road has meant that our car is
no longer road-worthy and needs to be replaced.

22
Plans for 2015
  • Visit to the other dioceses, including
    Congo-Brazzaville.
  • Further conferences with SOMA/Nairobi and a new
    partnership with Church Army/Africa
  • Training to improve the understanding and
commitment of youth leaders in all dioceses.
  • To establish CFEJ with more courses in Bunia
  • Follow-up the work with girls and children in
    each diocese.
  • To obtain a larger more roadworthy vehicle.
  • To obtain land and start building a house in
    Bunia as an income-generating project.
  • Funding to enable the department to grow
