Recommendations From the Proton Plan Directors
Review
  • Strengthen accelerator physics efforts to guide
    the implementation and commissioning of the
    correction systems. In particular with respect to
    tune and resonance control, utilize the
    experiences of other accelerators, both in
    performance and calculations, to aid in this
    effort. Develop a commissioning plan for the new
    correction elements.
  • At the next review, present the status of
    accelerator physics calculations for the
    injection process and for tune and resonance
    control.
  • Note Id like focus on the Booser in this
    meeting. Well get to the Linac before long

Status of Booster Modeling
  • Lots of work has been done.
  • Quite a few things have been learned.
  • Weve never been good at presenting this in a
    concise way.
  • Not a lot of communication between different
    modeling efforts.

The March of Progress
  • When serious attempts to model the Booster began.
  • It was discovered that the extraction doglegs
    (and ORBUMP a bit) were badly distorting the beam
    optics
  • The beam position mismatch at ORBUMP made
    fundamental understanding at injection very
    problematic
  • Now
  • Lattice distortions reduced to small perturbation
  • Long 3 rearrangement
  • Long 13 removal
  • New ORBUMP system
  • New ORBUMP system gives us much greater control
    of injection, including the ability to exactly
    match the orbiting beam.

Goal of This Meeting
  • Find out what everyones done and what theyre
    doing.
  • Begin to work toward a standard stump speech
    about the general state of Booster Modeling.
