The Molasses Act
  • The molasses act was an act where King George put
    a tax on molasses.
  • The colonist asked King George to repeal this tax
    but he refused.
  • Another law that was part of the act was that
    traders in New England could only trade with the
    British isles

French and Indian war
  • The French and Indian war lasted from 1754-1763
    the Europeans called it the seven years war.
  • The French and Indian war was sided by the
    British and the Americans and the French and
    Indians.
  • The British and the Americans won the war and the
    French lost a lot of land

The Proclamation of 1763
  • The proclamation of 1763 stated that no one could
    move any farther west of the Appalachian
    mountains
  • It also stated that those already living on the
    west of the Appalachian mountains had to move
    back across.
  • The land beyond the west of the Appalachian
    mountains belonged to the French

Stamp and Townshend act
  • The stamp act stated that there was a tax on 54
    kinds of paper.
  • If you did not pay your taxes you got in trouble
  • The Townshend act put a tax on glass, paper, tea
    and paint.

  • The sons of liberties motto was join or die
  • The sons of liberty snuck in to the houses of the
    tax collectors and beat them badly.
  • The sons of liberty were against paying taxes.

The Boston Massacre
  • The Boston massacre was simply a group of
    soldiers gunning down a group of colonists.
  • They gunned down the people because they were
    throwing snowballs at them.
  • One of the first to go down in this act was
    Crispus Attucks

The Boston tea party
  • The Boston tea party was when colonists threw
    English tea into the harbor.
  • They threw about 75,000 dollars away!
  • The colonists dressed like Mohawk Indians.

The first Continental Congress
  • Some people thought that the Boston tea party was
    wrong and offered to pay for the damages
  • The first continental congress met in September
    1774.
  • They decided to cut all trade to England.

Paul revere and the minute men
  • On the night of April 18, 1775 Paul revere warned
    Boston and Lexington to warn the people of the
    march
  • Minute men were men that were ready for trouble
    at a minutes notice
  • Paul revere was captured but escaped

Lexington Concord
  • On April 19, 1775 the battles of Lexington and
    Concord began.
  • The first shot fired was called the shot heard
    round the world.
  • This shot was called that because of the impact
    of war that followed.

Bunker Hill (breeds hill)
  • The British were forced back by the colonists
    twice.
  • The colonial army lost 140 men, the british lost
    1000 men.
  • The british won this battle.

2nd Continental Congress
  • The congress wanted to try to get the southern
    colonies to help.
  • They selected George Washington as general.
  • He had also fought in the French Indian war.

Ethan Allen
  • Ethan Allen led the green mountain men.
  • They took over fort Ticonderoga.
  • The British surrendered to the great Jehovah and
    the first Continental Congress.
