Unpacking and Morning Work
  • Each student is responsible for unpacking his/her
    backpack. Please stress the importance of placing
    notes from home and money in the correct bin.
  • After your child prepares for the day, there will
    be specific morning activity for them to do.
    Being on time is very important.

Labeling and snack
  • Labeling- please label your child's belongings.
    Please label any money that is sent to school.
  • Snack we will do group snack. 1 parent each week
    will be responsible for supplying snack for the
    entire week for the class. Healthy please is a
    must!
  • Water bottles

Water Bottles
  • Water helps keep our brain be energized and
    hydrated. Please send your child to school on
    Monday with a water bottle mini plastic ones are
    great! They will refill them through the week and
    recycle them on Friday!

Lunch
  • Our lunch time is from1107-1137. If you would
    like to visit for lunch please meet us in the
    atrium at 1107.
  • You can prepay online or you can send in lunch
    . If your child does not have enough money on
    their account, they will be given a peanut butter
    or cheese sandwich and a milk for lunch, this is
    a Cobb County policy.
  • Ice cream on Fridays only---with a note!

Medicine
  • If your child needs to take medicine during the
    school day, you must contact the clinic and fill
    out the appropriate forms. All medicines are
    dispensed at the clinic. Students may not keep
    medicine in their backpacks during the school
    day.

Homework
  • There will not be a lot of homework in
    Kindergarten, so therefore what is given is VERY
    important. One of the most important things is to
    READ to your child everyday! As your child
    develops reading skills please allow them to read
    to you.

Birthdays
  • We know what an important day this is for your
    child. If you would like to send in cupcakes,
    cookies, etc. please feel free. We will send the
    treat to lunch and they will be able to enjoy it
    in our café.

Flick
  • We have a class hummingbird that will go home
    with your child for the weekend when they are the
    star of the week. Children love to take her and
    enjoy being allowed to play with her on that
    weekend. She comes in her own bag and there is a
    journal in the bag. In the journal you may write,
    or have your child write about.

Communication
  • BLOG BLOG BLOG!!! Weekly updates every Friday and
    throughout the week. I will describe the events
    and academics for the upcoming week. This is the
    best way to see what the Hummingbirds are
    doing!

  • One yearly conference will be held in the fall to
    discuss your childs academic and social
    progress. Feel free though at anytime to contact

Red Folders
  • A red folder will come home everyday with their
    work in it and any notes from me. Please empty
    the folder daily.
  • Send any transportations notes, money, notes to
    me, forms back in the folder!
  • Communication page- If you need to write me a
    quick note or if I need to ask or tell you
    something. The note will be in the current day.

Behavior
  • We are building a Community of Learners that
    will practice respect, kindness, and cooperation.
    We will teach the life skills and lifelong
    guidelines pledge. We are here to teach each
    child to make good choices and maximize learning.
  • Whole class rewards

Rewards and Consequences
  • Verbal!!! I also give out class rewards when they
    fill up the marble jar.
  • Consequences- I will talk with the your
    Hummingbird and discuss making the right choice.
    They may loose some recess time if necessary. If
    it is very serious- I will contact you.
  • On occasion they will get a life skills sheet
    showing ones they are using and others they need
    to work on.

Tardies/Absences
  • Please be sure to be on time. The bell rings at
    750. All children are expected to be unpacked
    and seated by then. If coming by car/walking we
    would like them at school by 730.
  • This allows them to start their day off right!!!
    No kid likes walking in late?

  • Math- We use Harcourt math and Everyday Math. We
    have math kits and tons of math manipulatives in
    the room!
  • Math for the year- Calendar, Patterns, Adding,
    Subtracting, numbers, and Problem Solving
  • Math Centers
  • New Math addition-McGraw- Hill

  • Language Good Habits, Great Readers by
    Celebration Press-Pearson Group. We will focus on
    reading Writing workshop skills.
  • You will be amazed how quickly your child becomes
    a reader and writer!!
  • Guided reading, shared reading, book boxes, and
    academic centers

  • Social Studies- Houghton Mifflin edition. We will
    study me, my friends, my family and my community.
    Also through the year we will learn about people,
    places, jobs, holidays, long ago and today, our
    county and more!
  • Science Harcourt School Publishers. We will be
    learning about animals, plants, the earth, matter
    and motion, day and night, and much more
