The challenge of aviation for a sustainability
  • Operate 4 airlines total 93 aircraft
  • UK, Scandinavia, Germany (Condor) and Belgium
  • Airlines contribute over 98 of Group total CO2
  • 90 of the total environmental impact from an
    average charter flight is attributable to fuel
    consumption, emissions to the atmosphere and
    cabin waste.

    of successful sustainability work
  • The leading environmental tour operator and
    airline in the Nordic region working on
    environmental improvements since the 1990s

  • Has the industrys highest utilisation of seats
  • Has the industrys lowest fuel consumption and
    CO2 emissions per passenger (66g per passenger

The Results so Far
  • Reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 22
    since 1999
  • The first European airline to introduce source
    separation of in flight waste
  • Reduced in flight waste by 75 since 2000
  • Reduced energy consumption by administration
    staff by 30 in last 5 years
  • Reduced waste from administration by 25 over
    last 5 years
  • First Nordic airline (and only charter airline
    still) to produce a comprehensive dedicated
    environmental report
  • Recipient of an award for best environmental
    choice in Scandinavia, against 80 competitors

The Results so Far
  • Thomas Cook Airlines UK and Thomas Cook Airlines
    Scandinavia have both received the ISO14001
    certification for implementation of environmental
    management systems
  • UK airline was the first in the UK to get this
  • Only a handful of airlines worldwide have
    achieved this and 2 are part of our Group

  • Pioneers of waste management and in flight
  • UK emissions per passenger km also industry
    leading at 74.5g
  • Leading collaborative working with airports where
    based to push environmental initiatives
  • Huge charity contributor UK airline alone
    raises over 250k per year and all donate regular
    freight space
  • Built strong community links focussed on
    education and young people and as part of the
    airport community network
