Step One Prewriting
  • Prewriting is the starting point AND includes all
    activities/strategies that prepare an author to
    write

Step two Drafting
  • Drafting is when you begin the actual writing
  • During this step, you should not worry about
    spelling, grammar, capitalization, or punctuation

  • Look at your timeline and decide on 3 main TOPICS
    to elaborate on when writing your autobiography
  • Below are examples
  • TOPIC One Parent Guidance
  • TOPIC Two Life obstacles
  • TOPIC Three Achievements

3 Topics
  • On a sheet of paper, write these 3 TOPICS and
    list under each TOPIC all the ideas/events from
    your timeline that fit under each TOPIC
  • TOPIC one Parent Guidance
  • When and where you were born and who your parents
    are
  • Where you first lived
  • How your parents earned a living and more
    information about your first years of life

Step Three Revising
  • Revising follows drafting and includes adding,
    deleting, rewriting, and polishing
  • During this step, you may move back through
    drafting and prewriting several times

  • Topic Sentence
  • A sentence at the beginning of a paragraph that
  • tells the reader what the paragraph will be
    about (1 paragraph)

  • 1. Look at paragraph 2 to see if you have a
    topic sentence.
  • EXAMPLE Topic Sentence
  • City to city and state to state is the life of a
    military brat, but with the guidance of my
    parents, I made it through.
  • 2. Check to make sure you have 3 supporting
    sentences for that topic sentence.
  • EXAMPLE of a Supporting Sentence
  • My journey as a military brat began on December
    30, 19. in Knoxville, Tennessee.
  • 3. Check to make sure you have a concluding
    sentence as the last sentence in your paragraph.
  • EXAMPLE of a Concluding sentence
  • As you can see, my life journey has included
    several people, places and things.

    Our family moved all over the United States and
    overseas to Japan but we always remained a close
